Deborah Graefer - Chinese Herbologist
McDonald's, Burger King, In & Out Burger. Food in a hurry. Fast foods to go.
It serves our lifestyles but not our bodies or our minds. Fast foods are laden with saturated, hydrogenated and
trans fatty acids; refined flours, refined sugars and preservatives. It fills the gap in our stomachs, but not
in our nutrition.
We need food in a hurry, but we need healthy fast food. And we need it tasty. We need breakfast shakes; we need
fiber bars; we need healthy, sugar-free drinks made with natural herbal sweeteners. Now you can get all of these
in Chinese herbs to go - delicious foods made from ancient Chinese formulas with both your modern lifestyle and
your tastes in mind. "But," you say, "I'm looking for nutrition, not for medicine!" Then you've
come to the right place.
WHO SAYS HERBS ARE FOOD?
When people think of herbs, they think medicinal. But herbs can be food grade as well. For example, coix is a well-known
Chinese herb that has been designated certain values or functions for thousands of years. Now there are many modern
studies that back this up. And yet coix is simply a grain. Yes, it is a particular type of wild grain, but it still
boils down to grain. People eat grains all the time but never think of them as medicine.
The Chinese have been assigning medicinal value to foods that until recently we have not. But if you think about
it, any food has a nature and a taste, i.e. it may be hot or cold or have a heating or cooling effect on the body.
It will be spicy or salty or sweet or bitter or sour. And all foods contain chemical compounds, some that are nourishing
to the body, and others that are harmful. What dictates whether a plant is considered a food or not is whether
it contains more "friendly" chemical compounds or more "unfriendly" ones.
FOOD GRADE HERBS ARE THE MOST RESPECTED
In Chinese Medicine there are toxic herbs, medicinal herbs and food grade herbs. The toxic herbs have their purpose
- they work like a drug and force an action on the body. Medicinal herbs are used for specific purposes that are
not as acute and for limited times. Food grade herbs are the most respected. They achieve the most lasting results
with the most gentle of action. And they can be used long term with no side affects. They provide nourishment to
the specific systems of the body so that they can perform the functions they were intended to do. They are formulated
to bring the body into balance.
"FOOD IS YOUR BEST MEDICINE" said Hippocrates. And I say, "Let food be your medicine. And don't
think the usual fast food qualifies as food." I'm talking about fresh vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower
and brussel sprouts; green leafy vegetables like spinach, lettuce and kale; roots like beets, carrots and parsnips?
Some people have never eaten any of these vegetables. Some have grown up on America's fast foods. Many do not know
how to prepare these fresh foods even though they may know and like them. "I just don't have the time to prepare
foods like that."
CHINESE HERBS TO GO
Now there is an answer -- concentrated whole foods based on the ancient Chinese principals of balancing yin and
yang, the five elements, and on the Philosophy of Regeneration. There are nutritious foods that are fast to prepare.
When it comes to getting high quality nutrition, there is no better way, no tastier way, no faster way than with
these herbal formulas.
CONSULT AN EXPERT
With all the conflicting reports out there on what is good for you and what is not (low fat, no fat, high protein,
low protein, the latest new supplements etc.) it is confusing to know just what to eat and what not to.
That is my specialty. As a practicing acupuncturist and clinical nutritionist in California, I hold a Masters degree
in Oriental Medicine (MTOM) which includes acupuncture and Chinese herbology as well as both eastern and western
nutrition. I have seen excellent results by recommending a diet of whole foods with as little cooking as possible,
i.e., raw or lightly steamed. Click here to get your free copy of my eating recommendations.
INDEPENDENT SUNRIDER DISTRIBUTOR
Along with treating patients in my private practice I am also a public speaker and educator on whole food nutrition
and specifically on whole food Chinese herbs. Click
here for a list of speaking dates and conference calls. As an independent Sunrider Distributor
I have used Chinese herbs both personally since l988 and in my practice since l994.
If you are looking for these products,
please e-mail me here.
I recommend these products highly as an addition to anyone's daily nutrition plan. Especially in this day and age
of stressful living we often don't take the time to prepare natural whole foods. Our physical, mental and emotional
bodies pay for this lack of attention to nutrition. These foods are prepared with state of the art manufacturing
which blends the best of the ancient knowledge of the east with the modern technology of the west to bring you
pesticide free, highly concentrated potent herbs with the enzymes still intact. Now that's revolutionary! As I
said before, when it comes to ingesting Chinese herbs, there is no better way, no tastier way and no faster way
than these herbal formulas.
LEARN ABOUT GOOD FATS
Contrary to current opinion, fats are needed by the body. Essential fatty acids are used in the making of all cell
membranes, hormones are made from fat; they are important to the immune system, to energy metabolism and to brain
and nerve function. But it is the good fats that we need. Click here for my newsletter,
Good Fats, Bad Fats and learn about the healing benefits of essential fatty acids, how
you can boost your metabolism with GLA (gamma linoleic acid) and how hydrogenated fats can contribute to poor health
and fatigue. Fast foods also contain refined sugars which rob the body of vitamins and minerals; and they are full
of chemicals and preservatives which are foreign to the body.
Daily maintenance of the body with proper nutrition is the key to health and balance. Organic, nutrient-rich whole
foods are necessary to nourish the body at the cellular level. That's because the body knows how to use whole food
vitamins more completely than isolated vitamins. Click here to order my newsletter
about whole food vitamins vs synthetic vitamins. Whole foods contain enzymes and cofactors
and other synergistic components that enable them to be more easily and completely absorbed.
